The Internal Affairs investigator of the Tokmak police department was placed under house arrest after demanding a bribe.
I.K. extorted 30 thousand soms ($380) from the brother of a rape suspect. He was detained red-handed after receiving the money. The prosecutor’s office requested that the police officer be taken into custody, since he is accused of committing a grave crime and may hide from the investigation.
The court released I.K. under house arrest, citing his young age – 24 – and a positive testimony from his neighbors. The prosecutor’s office appealed against this in the Chui regional court, but the judicial board upheld the decision.
