The reason why Mukhammedkalya Abylgaziev was summoned to the financial police is still officially unknown.
The ex-minister’s name surfaced in several cases being dealt with by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Financial Police.
The first case is the scandal with the sale of radio frequencies, in which Abylgaziev could be involved. Other cases relate to the distribution of corruption and humanitarian aid that came to Kyrgyzstan from other countries.
In March 2020, the financial police began checking tenders for the purchase of personal protective equipment for doctors. The case referred to lobbying for the interests of individual pharmaceutical companies.
A little later, the police arrested ex-Minister of Health Kosmosbek Cholponbaev, who was involved in both the distribution of humanitarian supplies and the preparation of Kyrgyzstan for a pandemic:. According to the investigation, he caused damage to the country of more than 60 million soms ($750,000).
The investigations continue.
