Smuggled jewellery worth 10 million soms detained

A car with contraband jewellery was detained at the Chaldybar – Avtodorozhniy checkpoint with Kazakhstan on October 14.

Over three kilos of gold items were found – earrings, rings, pendants and bracelets in 10 boxes.

All the gold was hidden in a bag under the seat, and the driver had no documents for the jewelery being transported.

According to preliminary estimates, the total value of the arrested goods amounted to 10,214,400 soms ($127,600)

The driver of the car was detained and handed over to law enforcement officers for investigation.
